Social networking is taking off both online and off. Sites such as Face book, You Tube, and Twitter are the top five social networking sites. These sites have created new opportunities for individuals, businesses, and services to reach people online which they would have probably never been able to reach. One thing is certain that the people that go on social sites are leaving a finger print of who they are and what they are looking for, this defines their self-identities. Every time you join a social site and connect with other people you are leaving your mark.

Face book gives you the ability to set up a fan page for yourself, business, product or service. With Twitter you have the ability to customize your background personalize the profile and post your link. This draws attention to you and helps to enhance your self-image. Everyone likes to see their name in print! And a picture can tell a thousand words.

Once you get on several social sites you will realize that not only will you learn who is who and what they want but they will also know you. You only get one chance to make a first impression, therefore, be mindful of leaving a dramatic and impressive imprint. You do not want them to forget you, yet you do not want that to have left a negative perception. The goal is to take this online finger print and develop a face to face relationship.

The benefit of meeting individuals online is that this may become an opportunity for you to meet offline. Realize, you have already made an impression and you are now a trusted ‘friend’. You are meeting to further solidify your association and share your business, product or service. For all intent and purpose this is marketing. Amazingly enough relationships are built to market. Even if for some reason this particular person has no interest in what you have of offer they have a network therefore, by default your network has grown.

Everything you do is Your Brand! Your presentation from beginning to end is your finger print in branding. From the first blog or article to your appearance, each relationship you build on and offline sets the stage for your trademark. The first impression is how people will remember you. You must realize that even if your competitors may have a better starting hand – a stronger sales organization, higher awareness, greater market share or larger budget this does not assure victory. What is setting you apart is that you are marketing your brand with each gesture. This beats any ad, flyer, brochure or other stale old fashion methods of branding.

Building your presence online will always remain open for business no matter what the product may be. Present yourself exactly how you want to be known. Be cautious, and pride yourself carefully in creating a positive image that will re-direct more traffic to you. Attract the people you want to join you in your network, and remember your brand is your finger print everywhere you go both on and off line.

Do you have good “netiquette?” Do your children use proper netiquette? Do you think the Internet should be a free for all, do-what-you-want kind of place? Or do you believe in the need for strong ethical guidelines in cyberspace? Is there a Golden Rule of Netiquette?

The Golden Rule of Netiquette: Never say to someone online, something you would never say to their face. Sounds pretty simple. Yet cyberspace rudeness and misbehavior is running rampant, especially with teens. Cyber bullying is no joke. With the popularity of social media sites and the fact that most kids are way ahead of their parents when it comes to technology, many parents may feel inadequate when it comes to instilling online ethics.

It’s easy for teens, and even some adults, to get off course when it comes to “behaving” on the Internet. After all, on a computer or cell phone, if we choose to we can remain anonymous. The use of a clever user name and no photo, means I can say whatever I want, right? This is how cyber bullies are thriving online. They can be invisible and there’s no one to challenge their behavior.

So what are the basic rules of online etiquette and how can we teach our children to be good digital citizens? Following is a list I compiled from several sources and my own experiences, briefly outlining some basic guidelines for appropriate online behavior:

* Of course the Golden Rule again, never say to someone online, something you would never say to their face – a must-know rule for everyone and the first one teens should learn.
* Appropriate Language – remember no one else can see your body language, facial expressions, or hear the tone of your voice. Did you know that only about 10% of what people take away from something we say, comes from our actual words? Ninety percent of what they will get from us, they get from our body language and tone of voice. Online, others only have our written words – choose them wisely.
* Make a Good Impression- this is a biggie for everyone and a must know for teens when using social media sites such as My Space and Facebook. In many school districts now, teachers and administrators are accessing these social media sites to “check-up” on their students. I also recently heard about some companies perusing social media sites to help them make hiring decisions. So keep that in mind when you’re job hunting!
* You Are Not As Anonymous As You Think – blogs, emails, websites – they can often be traced back to you. So don’t send SPAM, use distribution lists properly, don’t forward chain letters, don’t use social media sites only for personal promotion of your business, and don’t prolong flame wars beyond the point of being interesting to anyone.
* Obey Copyright Laws – another important one for teens, especially for music downloading and plagiarism. You can visit the Library of Congress to read their guide on Copyright Basics.

To instill good online ethics, first and foremost we must set the example for our children. It may sound like a no-brainer, but this is really one of the most effective ways to teach them. When our children see us using technology inappropriately, they will assume it’s okay for them to do the same. As parents we try to be aware of the example we are setting in the non-digital aspects of life, it should be no different for the appropriate use of the Internet, cell phones, etc.

As with any other type of behavior, try to catch your teens doing the right thing and reward them. Even if the reward is merely complimenting them on making a good choice. This means more to them than you might think and will empower them to make the right choices in the future, even when it means going against their peers.

Follow through with consequences for inappropriate behavior in cyberspace or on cell phones. With our current culture being obsessed with self-esteem, parents are not holding children accountable when they make bad choices. Kids need to be able to hear your voice in their heads telling them “I probably shouldn’t do this, because Mom and Dad wouldn’t like it.” And believe it or not, no matter what teens may say, what parents think really does matter to them.

So far there is no universal agreement on exactly what the the Golden Rule of netiquette is and how deeply ethics should be involved in the use of all our digital devices. To make matters more frustrating, as digital technology rapidly evolves, creating a framework for a solidified set of guidelines seems to be ever more elusive.

Twitter is more of a social marketing tool rather then a social network when used properly and with purpose. We have all gotten the emails with the headlines desperately trying to convince us there are hundreds of thousands of dollars to be made on Twitter, and the best part is it can be done in one week, right? Of course not, but with the correct information leading you, there is plenty of opportunity on Twitter to be used to your advantage.

Automation and Twitter go hand in hand with the right application. There are many features of Twitter that can be utilized with an application to drive targeted traffic to your products, sites, and blogs. The biggest challenge in marketing is traffic to your offers, there is a saying all over the internet you may have heard before, “you can have the most beautiful and well laid out website but if nobody sees it, you make no sales.” Like many areas of online marketing there is strength in numbers, using a Twitter application that helps generate followers is the avenue you can use to gain those multitudes of possibilities. If you think about it, your list of followers is a bit like having an auto-responder list, only its a real time list. Having a good Twitter application is very useful in auto-follow efforts. With a good software you can setup an auto-follow situation based on keywords, usernames, or their own followers. For example, if you were trying to advertise a dog training website you created that had affiliate links, you could set the software to search for tweets using the keywords “dog training.” Same goes for usernames. For own followers this is how you setup the software to follow the followers of others. After you have this setup it is usually best practice to keep track of who you followed but they didn’t follow you back and either send them a special tweet or delete them and move on, but even un-following can be automated if you get your hands on a really good software.

Once you have the ideal number of followers though, there is still the task of sending out tweets that get clicks and often enough that people will continue to follow you, even watch for your tweets especially. Automated tweets is the best option here and yes you can find Twitter applications to do that too. Drip fed tweets scheduled over a specific period of time can save tons and tons of time. There are even sites out there that you can find stuff to tweet about on, just to keep your followers interested.

Another big key to Twitter success is in managing multiple accounts, perhaps one for each website or niche you are involved with to help keep you organized. This doesn’t mean you will then have to tweet specific messages to each account, although its probably the best way. But, when you don’t have a whole lot to tweet about or have a specific message you want to send out to everyone who follows you over multiple accounts, a software can also do this for you.

Overall there are many Twitter applications out there that can be used to automate the different tasks to be done on Twitter. Sadly though, not all applications you will find are capable of completing such tasks in an all in one fashion, you may need to find a few different applications to get your Twitter efforts setup for auto-pilot profits and traffic.

Wait! I found it, there actually is a Twitter application that can do everything needed to totally automate Twitter for you, I couldn’t believe it! Its called Smash Tweet and you can find it at Twitter Software check it out!

Most people already know that social networking sites will bring them traffic as long as they stay with it. But not everyone knows that sticking with it takes longer than just a couple weeks or so. When it comes to social networking site you need to make sure that you are always getting a bigger following then you had the previous day.

Facebook for example is a great site for any website to expand its followers. The great thing about Facebook is you can promote your website straight to peoples pockets and all over the world. You need to understand that people check their Facebook account regularly throughout the day and if you can post new things about your site at least 4 times a day they will most likely see your post. So make sure you use Facebook if you aren’t already.

Another great social networking site is Twitter. Twitter is a great site because many people use it and use it often. I know of people who use twitter like it is the new text message. If you have at least 1 minute a day to add new twitter messages then you will be sure to attract at least 40 or 50 more viewers to your site every day.

But here is the key to social networking sites. You need to have as many friends and followers as you possibly can. If you can get 500-1000 people on each site following you then you will have a great time with your new found traffic. These sites work and work often, so use them as much as possible.

For a good example of how these social networking sites work you need to check out THIS SITE!

Let’s face it. Most families can’t stand to be around one another. It’s not that they don’t love each other. It’s just that time has pulled them apart so they don’t have much to say, or someone always brings up something awkward from the past that everyone was hoping could have been kept in the closet.

No matter what it may be, in most cases, people would prefer to avoid family gatherings. The hard part about this reality, is that even though people may hate family gatherings, they still would like to at least be involved in one another’s lives. Facebook has solved everyone’s problems.

Today, it seems like just about everyone is on Facebook. From grandmothers to bosses, to elementary students, everyone you know is connected. While this has elicited fear in many people’s hearts, as they start to scan their photos and comments for anything that might cause harm to anyone, there is actually a lot of benefit to this reality.

The great advantage to Facebook is that you can easily keep in touch with family, no work required. Now you can post on your cousin’s wall and ask how they are doing, without having to spend the next thirty minutes in a phone conversation you really don’t care about. Or you can send your grandma a message saying you’re thinking of her, so that she’ll be happy without you having to visit her house. It’s terrible, but it’s true. Facebook allows you to care, without having to care.

So while at first glance, you might complain about your whole family getting involved on Facebook, look at all the benefits this has. You can stop avoiding family gatherings, and instead, have them in FarmVille.

The internet has a number social groups, communities and associations. These groups serve a wide range of functions from keeping members updated and provide a way through which discussions can be held and notifications posted. The one thing they have in common is that they bring together people with a common interest.

If you want to know how to find people with similar interest then that is quite easy. Firstly for every interest that is there you will find a blog for it. So you can go through blog listings and check for blogs that relate to what you are looking for. Check those blogs out and I’m sure you will be able find people that share the same interests there. That is the essential purpose of a blog anyway.

Besides the blogs there are also various sites that are there that cater for people with shared interests. Taking football as an example, you will find sites for all the clubs that are there and sites for their fans as well. This applies to any other interest be it travel, fashion or even books. If you want to know how to find people with similar interest, then look for such sites or communities.

People with shared interests are not hard to locate at all. Like I said there will always either be a blog, a site or community where these people meet and interact. If you were wondering how to find people with similar interest, now you see that it is not that difficult. Where you look will be determined by the kind of interests that you want follow up on.

Much has been written about the Fan Page vs. Group Page debate on Facebook. As far as “business” goes though, there’s no debate anymore. If you want a business page on Facebook, your best bet would be a Fan page, not a Group.

It seems the Fan page vs. Group page for business has irritated Facebook, because it increasingly has made a Group more like a personal page to further discourage its use as a business page. At the same time it continues to increase and improve the business features available for a Fan page and eliminate many of the advantages Groups used to have.

However, if you still insist on having your business page as a Group, be prepared to deal with these shortcomings:

- Members Hardly Know You Exist: This is the biggest shortcoming of a Group. Updates you make on your group wall DO NOT show up in members’ news feed. With a fan page, all updates show up in members’ news feed so long as they have adjusted their settings to receive these updates

- Messaging Members Is A Problem: Once you have more than 5,000 members in your group, Facebook considers you a potential spammer. Therefore, you cannot send messages to ANY of your group members. Essentially, this means you cannot have more than 5,000 members in your group, which does not happen with a fan page

- Non-Indexing By Search Engines: If your business is a “closed” group, then it will not show up in search results when someone searches for it. Honestly, it’s hard to imagine why a business would want to be a closed group on Facebook unless it has some intellectual property to protect

- No Visitor Stats/Analytics: There’s a saying in business that “if you can’t measure it, then you can’t improve it.” Facebook provides visitor stats for a Fan page but not for a Group, so you have no idea who’s visiting your page and what they’re doing there

- Limited Business Promotion Tools: Facebook provides administrators of Fan pages many tools – Social Ads, Badges, Fan Box, etc. – to promote their business on and off Facebook. This is not the case with groups

- Lack of Applications: A Facebook fan page is like an iPhone. There are hundreds of applications available to use with it. This is not the case with Groups.

If you are a business owner or corporate manager considering a business page on Facebook, you can see it’s a no-brainer which is more appropriate.

In the not so distant future, a Facebook Fan page will probably look more like a website where you can engage members with a lot of persuasive content, while a Group will look more a microsite.

Are you among the crowd that are desperately searching for ways to get their music recognized? Are you tired of not getting anyone’s attention for one minute? It is true many are jumping into the MySpace wagon to take advantage of its advertising potential. Using MySpace to promote yourself may be free, but not that easy. If your goal is to create a fan base and thus attract a record agent to sign you up, your dreams are big, but they can be accomplish if you do it the right way.

As you may know, everything in life is done in steps. It’s like trying to climb an invisible ladder while being blindfolded. It may seem easy, but its certainly a struggle. In this article I will only touch the surface of explaining. In other words, you will only learn of the first few steps before you actually set your foot on it. To start off, using MySpace as your means of advertisement is an excellent idea. MySpace attracts millions of visitors each hour; therefore, it is obvious how it will benefit you and your music. To obtain a few of those visitors and direct them to your own MySpace is a task. This task should be taken seriously and on point. Let’s begin to break everything into sections. There are four start key points to using MySpace to promote your music. (1) Be motivated & have patience. (2) Add as many “friends” as you can. (3) Take advantage of MySpace resources. (4) Attract and keep your visitors coming back.

(1) Be motivated & have patience. This step usually fails immediately with many people. Hoping to receive visitors out of the blue simply because you created a MySpace account is a dead end. As an artist or musician you need to be motivated. Motivated means to log in every day if possible, and try to convince people to listen to your music. Be extremely patient! Sometimes it takes a while for someone to finally comment you on your song. Sometimes it takes a while to convince people. Do not let your patience override you. In other words, do not spam MySpacers with your urge. This will only keep them away permanently.

(2) Add as many “friends” as you can. This does not mean you need to add your entire real neighborhood friends. Although yes, that will help immensely; nonetheless, “friends” is basically the title for adding “anyone.” This is only good when you are trying to promote your music. (Note: Do not add anyone if you’re simply a MySpace personal user) Moreover, you can do this free without having to pay someone to get you “400+ friends in a day.” Sure, it may help, but that’s the key to patience. To begin search for friend adder websites. A really good one is entitled Adder Demon. This is free and all you do is add a few friends and in turn more friends will add you. The more friends you have, the more opportunities there is of someone actually bumping into your profile and listening to your song! The more friends you have will also benefit you when directly sending bulletins or comments in regards to your new material.

(3) Take advantage of MySpace’s free resources. Use your bulletin, blogs, comments, blurbs, status, and messages wisely! Do not simply let them sit there with no use. These are free resources you can benefit from. As previously mentioned, do not spam your friends with information. Post it once or four times periodically throughout the day. Do not post continuously and “in there face” this will simply cause people to ignore you. You don’t need to spam people to get them to listen to you. All you do is spread your information around. They’re bound to bump into a link sometime. Create catchy titles that are within your news. Do not say “Open naked photos!” this will cause them to ignore you completely! Liars don’t get anywhere. Instead create good contests, sales, or give freebies. Example of a catchy title may be “Receive a free shirt!” Then you may elaborate more on who may get a free shirt, why, and how. You may even connect the freebies with your music. “Purchase an album and receive a custom-made shirt.” Hook them in & be creative!

(4) Attract and keep your visitors coming back. A bare MySpace will only get you visitors that are in the same position as you. Ever received those comments “listen to my song tell me what you think?” Isn’t that what you’re trying to get others to do? If you’re a beginner you may search for free layouts out there. However, these layouts will not really help in the long run. Keep in mind, a clutter/other artist’s pictures on your MySpace is not as attractive as you think. You want to be your own person. You want to represent yourself, not Lil Wayne or Fall Out Boy. While everything else that has been mentioned can be done free, a MySpace design is the most important and it can only be obtained in one way. If you’re not a custom MySpace designer you will need to hire one. Please be aware of the person you hire to design your layout. When you are ready to move to this step you will need to sit down and do some research. Compare prices & graphic quality. How would you like to represent yourself? People will not visit your MySpace again if its hard to read, overwhelming, or have glitter graphics all over the place. At Ale Creations – MySpace Layout Studio, we create our designs from scratch and 100% professionally made. We design within your budget & we strive to gain our customers’ satisfaction. Visit us when you’re ready, and let us help you climb a step further!

There is much spoken and written about Twitter these days and in particular, the possibilities of marketing with Twitter. According to statistics published in late 2009, almost 19% of all internet users have a Twitter account. Twitter still, however, is misunderstood or simply not understood at all by a fair chunk of the population. Is it a geeks’ toy, a time sucker or something students waste study hours messing about on? In this article we are going to explore why Twitter is much more than any of those things and why, if you have any sort of business, you should be excited about it.

Twitter falls into the category of a ‘Micro-Blogging Engine’. We are all familiar with blogs – a type of website designed to be dynamic and easily update-able. Twitter reduced this formula down to 140 characters. So imagine you had a blog but you had to condense each post to one sentence or two short sentences (this sentence is actually 141 characters). That’s what Twitter does. This makes it a very fast-moving and immediate form of communication.

In the early days of Twitter, the box where you would type your post (or Tweet as they are called) asked ‘What are you doing?’ This meant that people would write the most mundane and dull things in there…’I am eating a ham sandwich’ or ‘I just blew my nose’ These days Twitter has changed the question to ‘What’s happening?’ this alone has changed the way in which people are using Twitter. Now they are giving people an update rather than sharing banalities.

For the businessman, this represents a remarkable opportunity. An opportunity to connect with loyal customers and potential customers and update or promote your business in real time, and driving increased traffic to your website or customers to your store. Marketing with Twitter has become something business professionals should evaluate seriously.

Done properly, a Twitter campaign can have a massive effect on customers and sales whether your business is online or offline. However “done properly ” are the key words in that last sentence. Like any other new marketing medium, there are some subtleties that need to be recognised and observed to generate a successful campaign but if they are, you will find marketing with Twitter to be an invaluable addition to your marketing arsenal.

To get better acquainted with what Twitter can do for you and how you can use it without spending hours and hours you don’t have or can’t afford, you need to get hold of a copy of a FREE report called ‘Twitter Me This’.

This FREE report, authored by leading internet marketer Kevin Riley, will give you the facts, step by step, of why you need to be taking Twitter seriously. Visit http://tinyurl.com/yewkkwu to watch a short 2 minute video and get your free copy of ‘Twitter Me This’ now.

So first of all, what is Twitter? Well, basically its a fun and easy way to keep in contact with friends, that perfect way to stay close…but not too close to your family, or even a great way to keep tabs on you favorite celebrities. Did you know you can use Twitter for productive reasons though? Properly using Twitter can lead to productive leads that come to you.

So you might be wondering how that little blue bird can help you achieve success with your business. Well its actually quite simple. All you need to do is implement those same skills you use to build relationships with your friends to build relationships with other business savvy people to construct leads. The best thing about Twitter is that you can use it to market for free. Take the time to educate your fellow business people, guide them to shared success, and implement your business ideas.

Its one thing to know that you can use Twitter for your business, but its an entirely different thing to understand how to use it. Its rather easy once you get the hang of it, but can be confusing at the start so I will give you a step by step guide to get you started.

The first step is pretty obvious, Get a Twitter account. Simple, right? Great, now that you have gotten started, you need to get a good list of followers started. This part can seem very scary, however with a little bit of ingenuity you can go from zero friends to hundreds in just a few days. Step two involves finding someone who is in your target audience and adding them some of their friends as followers. Repeat step two every day and you will be quick to getting many leads.

Now, unlike other social networking sites, like Facebook, people post on Twitter multiple times a day, and it can be a bit overwhelming Fear not, as long as your posts contain some value and information, then people will read them. Remember, you don’t want to pitch your business all the time, people don’t like that.

Remember, when you’re out there branding yourself with your “tweets” make sure they are helpful. You want as much value as you can get and helping people and being a leader is best way to get it.

There are many more ways you can use Twitter other then these basic steps that I taught you here, many applications that can help you on the way. Start with the basics and master them. I will be back to teach you about the more advanced parts of Twitter in the near future. Until then, get out there and build those leads, but remember always to have fun. Twitter is a great source of business and fun.

Good luck, with the right amount of knowledge and determination I know you can become a great leader, and a top earner.

Success is your choice,
