Let’s face it. Most families can’t stand to be around one another. It’s not that they don’t love each other. It’s just that time has pulled them apart so they don’t have much to say, or someone always brings up something awkward from the past that everyone was hoping could have been kept in the closet.
No matter what it may be, in most cases, people would prefer to avoid family gatherings. The hard part about this reality, is that even though people may hate family gatherings, they still would like to at least be involved in one another’s lives. Facebook has solved everyone’s problems.
Today, it seems like just about everyone is on Facebook. From grandmothers to bosses, to elementary students, everyone you know is connected. While this has elicited fear in many people’s hearts, as they start to scan their photos and comments for anything that might cause harm to anyone, there is actually a lot of benefit to this reality.
The great advantage to Facebook is that you can easily keep in touch with family, no work required. Now you can post on your cousin’s wall and ask how they are doing, without having to spend the next thirty minutes in a phone conversation you really don’t care about. Or you can send your grandma a message saying you’re thinking of her, so that she’ll be happy without you having to visit her house. It’s terrible, but it’s true. Facebook allows you to care, without having to care.
So while at first glance, you might complain about your whole family getting involved on Facebook, look at all the benefits this has. You can stop avoiding family gatherings, and instead, have them in FarmVille.
